Birth of Oh Micro!
At Oh Micro!, we’re on a mission to grow fresh, sustainable microgreens right here in Vancouver—no soil, no pesticides, and no long-distance shipping. We provide high-quality, locally grown greens to restaurants, health food stores, and people who care about what’s on their plate.
Our journey started back in 2020, focusing on designing, building, and importing indoor farming equipment. In 2023, we kicked off crop trials in a warehouse to test what works best in a controlled environment. By 2024, we signed our first lease and started building out a full-scale hydroponic facility. And in early 2025, we proudly launched our first microgreen: Pea Shoots.
We're passionate about bridging the gap between traditional farming and the next generation of agriculture—especially in a world where extreme weather and unpredictable growing seasons are the new normal. With hydroponics, we can grow consistently, sustainably, and locally—no matter the forecast.
Inspiration to Start Oh Micro!
The inspiration for this business came during a time of deep personal reflection—right in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. When the world paused, so did my career. My wife, a dedicated frontline healthcare worker, continued to serve our community while I took on the role of caring for our two young children. Suddenly, I found myself responsible for meal planning and budgeting. That was when I truly grasped the rising cost and limited access to fresh, healthy food. It was eye-opening.
At the same time, my long-time mentor—an entrepreneur and visionary—began sharing with me his idea of building a local, sustainable indoor farm. He saw hydroponics as a way to bring farming closer to the city, to cut transportation emissions, and to make fresh food more accessible and affordable. We spent months planning, researching, and designing. But just as we began building the vision together, he was diagnosed with end-stage cancer.
He passed before the farm ever took shape. On his deathbed, he gave me one last mission: "Take this idea, and fly with it." Those words still echo in my heart every single day.
OhMicro is more than a business. It’s a tribute to a man who believed in growing something meaningful—literally and figuratively. It’s a promise to my children that we can eat well without compromise. And it’s a commitment to my community: to provide fresh, local, and sustainable food using smart, responsible farming methods.
This business is the intersection of personal growth, community need, and a mentor’s legacy. That’s what fuels me, and that’s what keeps our greens growing.
